The doctoral programme in Geography, Spatial Planning and Environmental Management is designed for students interested in researching the interrelationships between society, territory and the environment. It is a programme that promotes fundamental research in the fields of territorial planning and environmental management from a geographical perspective. The programme’s lines of research seek to train students in specific areas of research in collaboration with specialists with proven track records. Specifically, the programme aims to foster new ways of thinking about the territory and the environment and to promote new forms of organization in keeping with the demands of the welfare society in the 21st century.

Vies i condicions d'accés
Amb caràcter general, per accedir a un programa oficial de doctorat és necessari estar en possessió d'un títol oficial espanyol de grau, o equivalent, i d'un títol de màster universitari, o equivalent, sempre que s'hagin superat, almenys, tres-cents crèdits ECTS en el conjunt dels dos ensenyaments. Així mateix, hi pot accedir qui es trobi en algun d'aquests supòsits:- Estar en possessió de títols universitaris oficials espanyols o títols espanyols equivalents, sempre que s'hagin superat almenys 300 crèdits ECTS en el conjunt d'aquests ensenyaments, i acreditar un nivell 3 del Marc espanyol de qualificacions per a l'educació superior.
- Estar en possessió d'un títol obtingut d'acord amb sistemes educatius estrangers pertanyents a l'espai europeu d'educació superior (EEES), sense necessitat que estigui homologat, que acrediti un nivell 7 del Marc europeu de qualificacions, sempre que aquest títol faculti per accedir a estudis de doctorat al país d'expedició. Aquesta admissió no implica, en cap cas, l'homologació del títol previ del qual estigui en possessió l'interessat ni el reconeixement a altres efectes que el d'accedir a ensenyaments de doctorat.
- Estar en possessió d'un títol obtingut d'acord amb sistemes educatius estrangers aliens a l'EEES, sense necessitat que estigui homologat, amb la comprovació prèvia per la Universitat de Barcelona que aquest títol acredita un nivell de formació equivalent al del títol oficial espanyol de màster universitari i que, al país d'expedició, faculta per accedir a estudis de doctorat. Aquesta admissió no implica, en cap cas, l'homologació del títol previ del qual estigui en possessió l'interessat ni el reconeixement a altres efectes que el d'accedir a ensenyaments de doctorat.
- Estar en possessió d'un altre títol de doctor.
- Igualment, hi poden accedir els titulats universitaris que, prèvia obtenció d'una plaça en formació mitjançant la corresponent prova d'accés a places de formació sanitària especialitzada, hagin superat amb avaluació positiva almenys dos anys de formació en un programa per a l'obtenció del títol oficial d'alguna de les especialitats en ciències de la salut.
- Els llicenciats, arquitectes o enginyers que estiguessin en possessió del diploma d'estudis avançats obtingut d'acord amb el que s'estableix en el Reial decret 778/1998, de 30 d'abril, o que haguessin assolit la suficiència investigadora regulada en el Reial decret 185/1985, de 23 de gener.

Criteris d'admissió específics
La Comissió Acadèmica del programa de doctorat és responsable del procés d'admissió. De les 12 places que el programa de doctorat de Geografia, Planificació Territorial i Gestió Ambiental ofereix el primer i el segon any d'implementació del programa, se'n reserven quatre per a estudiants amb dedicació a temps parcial i vuit per a estudiants amb dedicació a temps complet.
Excepte en el que es refereix a la durada dels estudis de doctorat, les normes aplicables en el programa de doctorat són les mateixes per als estudiants a temps complet i a temps parcial. Els estudiants que sol¿liciten la matriculació a temps parcial ho han de justificar adequadament a la sol¿licitud. Els canvis de modalitat (de temps complet a temps parcial, i viceversa) els ha d'aprovar la Comissió Acadèmica amb informe previ favorable del tutor i del director. Si s'aprova el canvi de modalitat, té efecte a partir del començament del curs següent al de la petició.
En el cas d¿estudiants amb necessitats educatives especials derivades de discapacitat, la Comissió Acadèmica, en cooperació amb l¿Escola de Doctorat, ha d'avaluar la necessitat de possibles adaptacions del contingut del programa.
Atesa la amplitud dels perfils d'ingrés al programa, amb estudiants amb titulacions de grau i màster molt diverses, la Comissió Acadèmica del programa de doctorat vetlla perquè l'assignació del tutor o director, com també la tria de la línia de recerca del programa en què es matricula l'alumne, sigui adequada al seu perfil, de manera que, amb independència del perfil, tots els alumnes puguin seguir en igualtat de condicions el programa de doctorat. D'aquest manera, la Comissió Acadèmica del programa supervisa que cap alumne s'assigni a una línia de recerca amb una formació prèvia que no li permeti abordar amb èxit la realització d'una tesi. Per a això, a més a més, les activitats formatives que es proposen des de el programa tenen un caràcter genèric i flexible que permet que directors, tutors i alumnes puguin dissenyar un itinerari formatiu i un pla de recerca específics i adequats, dins de l'àmbit i l'abast temàtic del programa de doctorat.
Criteris de valoració i pes a la selecció
La Comissió Acadèmica del programa de doctorat ha acordat els següents requisits específics d'admissió i criteris de valoració i selecció dels candidats:
1. Titulació prèvia adequada als estudis de doctorat: fins al 30 %.
a) Es consideren perfils altament adequats els dels titulats procedents de titulacions directament relacionades amb els àmbits de la geografia, la planificació territorial i la gestió ambiental, que compleixin els requisits d¿accés que es demanen per als estudis de doctorat.
b) Es consideren perfils adequats els dels titulats procedents de titulacions d'Història, Antropologia, Arquitectura, Ciències Ambientals, Ciències Biològiques, Ciències Socials (Ciències Econòmiques, Sociologia, Dret), Humanitats, Ciències físiques, Ciències Geològiques, Topografia, i altres de similars que pugui valorar la Comissió Acadèmica del programa, que compleixin els requisits d'accés que es demanen per als estudis de doctorat.
2) Expedient acadèmic: fins al 30 %.
a) Expedient acadèmic de llicenciatura o grau: fins al 15 %.
b) Expedient acadèmic de màster: fins al 15 %.
3. Mèrits del currículum: fins al 20 %.
a) Experiència de recerca: fins al 5 %.
b) Experiència laboral: fins al 5 %.
c) Publicacions: fins al 5 %.
d) Altresmèrits:beques, llengües, etc.: fins al 5 %.
4. Beca de recerca: fins al 10 %.
5. Carta d'intencions: fins al 10 %.

Criteria for theses as a collection of publications:
Doctoral theses submitted as a collection of published articles:
1. Theses deposited as a collection of publications must meet the following requirements:
a) The thesis must include an abstract or synopsis and a general introduction, which presents the articles, describes the importance of the research topic, outlines the theoretical framework used, and specifies its objectives. It must also include a section describing the methodology used.
b) The thesis must include an overall summary of the results obtained, a discussion of the results, and final conclusions.
c) A complete copy of the articles submitted as part of the thesis must be included. The names and affiliations of all the co-authors of the works and the complete citation of the publications must be clearly indicated. If any of the works are in the process of being published, the doctoral candidate must attach proof of acceptance and the full citation of the publication to which they have been submitted. If any submitted article is the work of co-authors, it is also necessary to include the information specified in paragraph 2.b of this article.
For any submitted article that has been published in a language other than those specified in the doctoral programme, it is necessary to attach an abstract of the article in question written in one of the programme’s languages.
e) The thesis must also meet any other requirements established by the programme's Academic Committee.
2. For doctoral theses submitted as a collection of published articles, the doctoral student must attach to the request for authorization to deposit the doctoral thesis not only the documents specified in article 35.3 of these regulations, but also the following documents:
a) A written statement from the thesis supervisors on the impact factor and/or the journal categorization of the publications included in the doctoral thesis or the classification of the publishing house which published them.
b) For any submitted article that is the work of co-authors, it is necessary to include a report by the thesis supervisors comprehensively specifying the participation of the doctoral student in each article and justifying if any of the other co-authors of an article have implicitly or explicitly used the article to prepare a doctoral thesis or plan to do so in the future.
3. Doctorate programme academic committees must establish the requirements to be met by theses submitted as a collection of published articles in terms of the number of articles and the minimum characteristics of the journals in which they are published. These criteria are unique for each doctoral programme and which must be made public. If the criteria are modified, the criteria considered valid are those established at the time the doctoral student submits his or her research plan.
Doctoral programme in Geography, Spatial Planning and Environmental Management
• Three articles, all on a cohesive topic, published in scientific journals included in the Journal Citation Reports (ISI) of Thomson Reuters.
• Five articles (at least one included in the ISI), all on a cohesive topic, published in scientific journals listed in the Journal Citation Reports (ISI); or with international or national classification in the ERIH for their area(s), which are included in the corresponding doctoral programme; or in Scopus; or with group A classification in CARHUS PLUS+; or in the first or second quartiles of IN-RECs. For theses submitted as a collection of publications, the Doctoral Committee may exceptionally take into consideration other published contributions, provided that they have scientific content, an editorial board, referenced articles and periodicity, and that they meet other criteria for scientific journals as well as always being included in a reputable indexing system. Given the specificity of the humanities and social sciences, book chapters in volumes that have undergone a peer review process can be considered under this heading.
4. The publications must be the result of the doctoral student's research plan and, therefore, cannot have a publication date prior to the official date of admission to the programme (first enrolment for thesis tutoring).

Languages commonly used in the international scientific community
