Admission for students with international studies

1. To be in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems belonging to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that accredits a level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) provided that this degree entitles access to doctoral studies in the country of issue. Documentation to be submitted:
  • Foreign degree from the EHEA. In the event that the degree does not belong to a country of the European Union, it must be legalised. An official translation of the degree will also be required if it is not issued in Catalan, Spanish or English.
  • Document accrediting level 7 EQF issued by the corresponding body in the country of issue of the degree. This document must be legalised, if it does not belong to a country of the European Union, and must be accompanied by its official translation if it is not issued in Catalan, Spanish or English.
  • Document issued by the competent body of the country issuing the degree certifying that these studies give access to the doctorate. This document must be legalised, if it does not belong to a country of the European Union, and must be accompanied by its official translation if it is not issued in Catalan, Spanish or English.
2. To be in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems outside the European Higher Education Area, after verification by the University that this degree accredits a level of training equivalent to that of an official Spanish university master's degree, and that, in the country of issue, it entitles access to doctoral studies. Documentation to be submitted:
  • Foreign title, legalised. An official translation of the degree will also be required if it is not issued in Catalan, Spanish or English.
  • Academic certificate of the subjects taken to obtain the degree. This certificate must be legalised and must be accompanied by its official translation if it is not issued in Catalan, Spanish or English.
  • Document issued by the competent body of the country issuing the degree certifying that these studies give access to the doctorate. This document must be legalised and must be accompanied by its official translation if it is not issued in Catalan, Spanish or English.
  3. Be in possession of a doctoral degree. Documentation to be submitted:

If you have a foreign university degree and you are in possession of the Spanish Ministry of University’s homologation/equivalence accreditation, your degree is considered a Spanish degree and therefore you must access doctoral studies through one of the access routes with Spanish studies.

Procedure and necessary documentation

The application for admission and access to a UB doctoral programme is made through an online application that you can find on the Electronic Office or on the website of the doctoral programme in which you are interested, as long as the admission period is open.
The necessary documentation is as follows:

  • Depending on the access route you have selected, you must attach the original supporting documentation to the application for admission and access.
  • DNI, TIE (identification card for foreigners from outside the European Union), Identity document issued by the competent authority of the country of origin (in the case of nationals of European Union countries) or passport.
  • Other academic documentation: check the website of the doctoral programme to which you want to be admitted to find out what documents are necessary for admission to the doctoral programme. If other academic documents are necessary.
