Admission with foreign qualifications to university master’s degree courses

    • Their degree was issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and authorizes the holder to access university master’s degree studies in the issuing country.
    • Their degree was issued outside the framework of the EHEA and has been officially recognized as equivalent to a qualifying Spanish degree, if that is the case, or includes a statement of equivalence to an official Spanish university qualification of comparable academic level.
    • Their degree was issued outside the framework of the EHEA and has not been officially recognized.
In this last case, the UB shall verify that the qualification corresponds to an educational level equivalent to an official Spanish university degree and that it enables the student to access university master’s degree courses in the issuing country. Admission to the university master’s degree does not in any case mean that the student’s qualification has been officially recognized as equivalent to a Spanish university degree or recognized for any other purpose except that of taking the university master’s degree in question. The documents that are required to access the master’s degree course without previous official recognition are as follows:
    • Completed application for authorization.
    • Legally validated copy of the bachelor’s degree or equivalent (authenticated and officially translated by the appropriate diplomatic channel).
    • Legally validated copy of the certificate listing the course units completed (authenticated and officially translated by the appropriate diplomatic channel). In all cases, the master’s degree coordination committee shall be responsible for the appropriate procedures.

In addition, students must pre-enrol as part of the selection process.

The admission procedure for each master’s degree is established by the UB (*). This procedure includes specific criteria, criteria of merit and, in certain cases, specific previous education.

The admission criteria are described under the section 'Course offerings’ in the pages grouped at University master’s degree courses and on the webpage for each course.

In all cases, successful admission depends on the evaluation criteria established by the university and by the directors of the master’s degree course.

  • Students must complete pre-enrolment as part of the selection process for their chosen university master’s degree course. This is done by filling in a form. Each master’s degree course has a specific form, which can be found in the section 'Course offerings’ in the pages grouped at University master’s degree courses. Forms are available during pre-enrolment periods and contain information on pre-enrolment selection and evaluation criteria, pre-enrolment and enrolment deadlines and the name of the coordinator, his/her email and contact telephone number.

    * In accordance with the provisions established in Article 17 of Royal Decree 1393/29 October 2007, students may be admitted to a university master’s degree course if they meet the specific requirements and evaluation criteria. The university shall determine the admission requirements, which may include previous education requirements, depending on the subject area of the master’s degree course.
