The University of Barcelona and Santander Bank have re-validated the collaboration agreement they have from years ago through Santander Universities. The agreement predicts specific actions on the field of education, employment and entrepreneurship through economic aids and promotion for several programs.

The programs for study grants BkUB and Màster+UB and the creation of the UB-Santander Awards to the best research projects of upper secondary school focus actions on the educational field. The BkUB program, on grants for the bachelor and master students under a vulnerable economy situation, will receive, as a result from this agreement, a contribution accounting for 300,000 euros. Also, the grant program to promote scientific vocations and encourage students with excellent marks to study mastersʼ degrees, Màster+UB, created during the academic year 2018/2019, will also receive, resulting from this agreement, a contribution of 60,000 euros.

As another result of this agreement, the UB will call for the awards to the best research projects of upper secondary school in Catalonia, aimed to promote the youngstersʼ interest in research. This initiative is expected to receive 30,000 euros.

Regarding employment, the predicted actions are focused on the call of pre-doctoral contracts, through the PIF program, with a contribution of 700,000 for a total of fifty people, who will be trained as researchers full time. Also, their collaboration in support tasks for teaching in the university and their entrance to the professional field will be promoted.

Regarding the employment field, there will be a UB-Santander tutoring program to offer a new customized advice channel for students and new graduates. In particular, it will offer tutoring by Alumni members with certified professional experience.

Last, regarding entrepreneurship, the UB-Santander agreement launches several programs and initiatives. The StartUB!-Santander wants to expand entrepreneurship among the students of bachelor, master and doctoral degrees with several actions different from the facultiesʼ. It will also promote spin-offs supporting and complementing existing initiatives. Moreover, there will be a contribution of about 200,000 euros for a patent program of the UB, which should have funds to advice researchers regarding this topic and create a patent pool in a future. At the same time, there will be a program to launch a total of eight innovation and knowledge transfer groups. This program, which received a contribution of 100,000 euros, has to allow the recruitment of support staff for these actions.

In co-work, there is the launch of the program SFG Launching Lab Santander UB, which will consist on setting a place for student tutoring to respond entrepreneurship challenges based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Apart from a central space with this aim, there will be other places in the faculties. Also, the Innovation Day will be promoted: an action within the frame of EIT Health which was held last year at the UB for the first time.

The agreement established a set of specific academic collaborations, as well as the continuity of the collaboration in aspects on technology, such as the participation in the portal Universia España, in the digital entrepreneurship platform Santander X and the intelligent university card.
