More than five centuries of history

Experience the University of Barcelona through time.

The University of Barcelona combines the values of tradition with its role as an innovative institution of excellence in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer.

We are an urban, open, and cosmopolitan university—just like the city of Barcelona itself—and one of the oldest institutions in Catalonia: a clear reflection of the country’s political, social, and economic developments, and an important reference point in its history.

Rosalia Guilleumas i Brosa

Rosalia Guilleumas i Brosa

A graduate in Romance Philology, she specialised in the study of Ramon Llull and Jacint Verdaguer. In 1954 she received the Manuel de Montoliu Prize for her work Ramon Llull en l’obra de Jacint Verdaguer (Barcelona: Barcino, 1953). She led several national libraries, most notably holding simultaneous directorship between 1973 and 1980 of the University and Provincial Library of Barcelona, the Library of Catalonia, the School of Librarians, and the Public Libraries Service of the Barcelona Provincial Council. After decades of stagnation of these four institutions under the dictatorship, Rosalia Guilleumas succeeded in bringing modernity and professionalism to them.
