This year, the World Peace Forum, organized by the Schengen Peace Foundation, with its headquarters in Luxembourg, takes place in Barcelona. It is coordinated by the Fomento Europeo Foundation in collaboration with the Royal Artistic Circle, and it includes the participation of the University of Barcelona and other entities.
On 23 November, the UB held the opening ceremony for this international meeting, which results from civil society and which is an opportunity for entities and collectives to defend their role in peacebuilding worldwide and to express their opinion on this challenge. The event included the participation of the Rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia; the President of the Schengen Peace Foundation, Vicki Hansen; the President of World Peace Forum, Josep Fèlix Bentz, and the Vice-president of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Núria Parlón. Among the participants were also Eduardo Ávila, Ambassador for Colombia (country that held the last edition of World Peace Forum); Antoni Cañete, President of PIMEC; Maria Eugènia Gay, Second Deputy Mayor, and Carlos Prieto, Spanish Government Delegate in Catalonia.

The World Peace Forum programme includes 55 roundtables and debates in several headquarters, one of them the UB’s Historic Building, which will hold several conferences and roundtables on topics such as the Global Peace Index; peace and universities; development; refugees; conflict mediation, and gender perspective. There are also exhibitions at the Royal Artistic Centre, the National Museum of Art of Catalonia and the Palau Martorell, and concerts at the Conservatory of the Liceu, the Basilica del Pi and the Wall for Peace (located at The River Museum, on the banks of the Besòs River, in Santa Coloma de Gramenet), where the organization has enabled a space for citizens to display their slogans, texts and artistic interventions in favour of peace.

In addition to the UB, organizations such as Foment del Treball, Esade, the Red Cross, the Fundació Impulsa Talentum, the Official College of Architects of Catalonia and the Conservatori del Liceu participate in the World Peace Forum. Among the speakers are Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Michael Collins, Ouided Bouchamaoui, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Audrey Azoulay and activists such as TVBoy, Duvan or Boniface Mwani.
