The University of Barcelona is back at the 4 Years From Now (4YFN), the platform dedicated to start-ups and entrepreneurship at the Mobile World Congress, which this year will be held at Fira Gran Via de Barcelona, from 26 to 29 February.

The UB will have its own stand at the 4YFN —specifically, the 8.1C23— where it will present some of its most innovative projects with a great transfer potential. The aim is to exhibit the most relevant technological novelties, in order to grow and get known in a global scenario.
The University will take part in this space through StartUB!, its entrepreneurship-promoting unit for students, and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, the office for knowledge and technology transfer responsible for the promotion of the creation of start-ups and spin-offs among the research staff.

The spin-offs and the start-ups to take part in this event on 26 and 27 February are:

Spin-offs:
  • Colorsensing. They work on the reduction of food waste thanks to the development of a smart packaging solution that detects damaged products before they reach the consumers.
  • Nimble Diagnostics. They have developed the first medical device to monitor, in a non-invasive manner, implanted stents: it allows for the identification of potential heart disease problems in a non-invasive, quick and easy way.
  • Oniria Therapeutics. It focuses on the development of therapies aimed at removing persistent cancer cells in conventional treatments responsible for the progression of cancer towards advanced stages.

Start-ups:
  • Benesit. A device to correct one’s posture when seating and to prevent back pain.
  • Filmo. A platform to rent audiovisual material among individuals.
  • Omashu. It offers a service that accredits the proper transfer and value prediction of the e-sports players, both at a professional and an amateur level, using blockchain technology and machine learning.
  • Pets&Vets. A platform that connects pet owners with vets and other animal professionals to democratize the access to animal healthcare.
  • The Blue Box. It provides a solution given by artificial intelligence to detect breast cancer in a non-invasive way and without irradiation, through urine.

On 28 and 29 February, the following businesses will be present:

Spin-offs:
  • Braingaze. It develops and trades digital solutions for the early detection, diagnose and therapy of cognitive diseases and disorders such as ADHD, Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum disorder, etc.
  • Gate2Brain. A biotechnological company that develops a technology based on peptides able to cross the blood-brain barrier and transport drugs to the brain.
  • LogMeal. Its technology uses artificial intelligence and deep-learning algorithms to analyse meals in real time, by taking a picture.

Start-ups:
  • Dekines. A platform to manage working teams and monitor the employees’ turns.
  • Lexy. An artificial intelligence platform that helps companies to create content.
  • Match IT. It offers solutions, through artificial intelligence, to optimize processes in working teams.
  • Thead. A community of innovative teachers promoting educational technology to favour inclusion, reduce inequalities and promote environmental awareness.
  • Xron. A program to develop videogames, interactive apps, extended reality (virtual and augmented reality), digital art, user experience and interaction design (UX/UI) and web design.
Furthermore, the spin-offs Quilimanjaro Quantum Tech and Virmedex Virtual Experiences will be in the Hall 8.0 - 4YFN Stand 8.0B15.5 and the Hall 8.1 - 4YFN Stand 8.1C33.5B, respectively. Qilimanjaro is one of the five finalist startups in the 4YFN Awards, a global competition to discover the best digital startups on the planet and for the planet. It is the ultimate recognition for start-ups at the MWC Barcelona 2024.

With its presence at the Mobile World Conrgess’ 4YFN, the UB reaffirms its commitment to innovation and its will to contribute to the technological and social progress.
