The University of Barcelona is ranked 91st worldwide among higher education institutions in the SCImago Institutions Rankings. The UB remains in 19th place in Western Europe and once again, it occupies the first place in Spain.

The University of Barcelona is ranked 91st worldwide among higher education institutions in the SCImago Institutions Rankings. The UB remains in 19th place in Western Europe and once again, it occupies the first place in Spain.
This ranking evaluates more than 4,500 universities worldwide using various indicators based on research performance, innovation outcomes and social impact. The UB stands out especially in the indicators related to research, in which it improves positions and obtains the 60th position worldwide. Moreover, it also climbs positions in social impact (63rd worldwide).
Furthermore, the University of Barcelona is listed among the top 50 worldwide in the area of Arts and Humanities (32nd worldwide) and in Literature and Literary Theory; Philosophy; History; Botanical Sciences; Psychiatry, and Mental Health and Palaeontology. In total, the UB leads the ranking in Spain in the scientific areas of Agricultural and Biological Sciences; Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology; Medicine; Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy; Physics and Astronomy; and Psychology. It is also the leader institution in many of the disciplines associated with these areas. The Spanish universities that follow the UB in the ranking are the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (position 105) and the Complutense University of Madrid (159).
The SCImago Institutions Rankings include institutions from several sectors: government entities, health institutions, universities, companies and non-profit organizations. In this edition of the SCImago Institutions Rankings, the top position is held by Harvard University, followed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Harvard Medical School and Zhejiang University.
