The UB holds a cycle on the ecosocial crisis to raise awareness among students

The student movement End Fossil Occupy Barcelona, with the support of the University of Barcelona, has organized a series on the ecosocial crisis aimed at the university community, especially students, and the general public. The initiative, entitled Conference on Ecosocial Crisis and New Horizons, will consist of twelve sessions to be held between 20 February and 18 April. The aim is to raise awareness of the climate emergency and the energy, economic, social and environmental risks it entails. The activity will be live-streamed through UBtv.

The student movement End Fossil Occupy Barcelona, with the support of the University of Barcelona, has organized a series on the ecosocial crisis aimed at the university community, especially students, and the general public. The initiative, entitled Conference on Ecosocial Crisis and New Horizons, will consist of twelve sessions to be held between 20 February and 18 April. The aim is to raise awareness of the climate emergency and the energy, economic, social and environmental risks it entails. The activity will be live-streamed through UBtv.
The first session will take place on Tuesday 20 February 5.00 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the University of Barcelona, and will begin with the workshop "Inhabiting the Anthropocene and building new horizons: an approach from thought", which will bring together experts and thinkers from various disciplines to address the implications and magnitude of global change.

The session will be opened by the Rector, Joan Guàrdia, and will include the participation of Adrián Almazán, a postdoctoral researcher in Philosophy and postdoctoral researcher focused on eco-social issues, and Cheikh Drame Tine, anti-racist activist and President of SOS Racisme Catalunya.

The conference will continue with the following sessions:

  • “The role of education in the face of the ecological challenge / Open Agora: collectively designing the new subject on the ecosocial crisis", 27 February at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Imaginaries of energy: culture, thought and politics in the age of fossil fuels", 29 February at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Queer Ecology: An Introduction to a New Intersection", 12 March at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Ecofeminism: Putting Life at the Centre", 13 March at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Climate, Migration and Rights", 19 March at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Experiences of Struggle: Voices from the Global South", 21 March at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Communicating urgency, communicating hope", 9 April at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Work and Climate", 11 April at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Cities. Urban metabolism and social transformation in times of climate upheaval", 16 April at 5.00 p.m.
  • “Agro-ecology: sowing futures", 18 April at 11.00 a.m.
The University of Barcelona will be a pioneer in teaching a subject on ecosocial crisis, which will be incorporated into all degree courses.
Towards the first university course on the ecosocial crisis

The University of Barcelona will be a pioneer in teaching a subject on ecosocial crisis, which will be incorporated into all undergraduate degrees. On 27 February, in the third session of the cycle, the group of lecturers and researchers who have participated in the design of the subject will present their progress on the proposed provisional structure of this new subject.

The conferences have been designed by students and members of End Fossil. Attendance at the cycle will be recognised with free elective credits.
