As the Department of Research and Universities has announced, the University of Barcelona is the leading Catalan university in terms of the number of students who have graduated with honours from the 2023 high school graduation, with a total of 663 students.

The second university was the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), with 438 students, and the third was the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), with 410.
The centre that has received the most students is Medicine, with a total of 86 students — 56 at the Clínic Campus and 30 at the Bellvitge Campus —, followed by Biomedical Sciences, with 62; Physics, with 57; Pharmacy, with 33, and Biomedical Engineering and Mathematics with 26.

In the words of Pilar Delgado, vice-rector for Academic Policy, "this is a source of satisfaction and a challenge, as it is essential to ensure that these students have the educational resources they need to continue on their path towards excellence". She stated that "the reasons why students with honours choose the UB's science and health sciences degrees are diverse: prestige (it is the first in Spain in various international rankings), opportunities for the development of technical and analytical skills (such as simulation classrooms or laboratories with the latest technology) and research (we are a research-intensive university in all areas of knowledge and with a high international impact), as well as the students' perception of being able to provide a service to society".

Students with an honours degree or with an extraordinary award in their secondary education graduation or higher level training cycle, can benefit from the total exemption of the public prices of all the credits enrolled during the first year of the first year of official university studies.

Regarding this percentage, the director of the Academic-teaching Support Area, Antonio Forés, reveals that "in 72 of the 93 offers we had for pre-registration, we have some honours. Our university accounts for 25.82% of the total allocation, and of the 669 students with enrolment, 31.23% of those assigned to the system". And he emphasizes that "our generalist character attracts talent to all disciplines, and that in those in which we compete with others, we maintain a high level". "We have the most because we also have the most allocations," he concludes.
The University of Barcelona has the highest number of high school graduates with honours.
As for the Humanities and Social Sciences degrees, which will receive a total of 173 students, the vice-rector believes that "it is often believed that degrees in the Humanities and Social Sciences are less attractive than those in the fields of technology, engineering or health, but in some cases, this is not exactly the case. The Law degree and the Business Administration and Management degree receive a similar number of students with honours from the baccalaureate as the Dentistry and Chemical Engineering degrees.

In this sense, he states that "the irruption of artificial intelligence necessarily requires the critical and humanistic thinking provided by disciplines such as history, philosophy, archaeology, anthropology or geography, and it is everyone's job to value their training programmes, their professional opportunities and the importance they have for society in general".

"Not only does UB attract the most talented students from previous academic excellence, but it also stands out for its commitment to making significant contributions to society," concludes Delgado.
