The University of Barcelona has improved in the different areas analyzed by the QS World University Rankings by Subject, published by the British specialist magazine Times Higher Education. Specifically, the UB has improved in nine areas and remained the same in one.

The UB is ranked 76th in Clinical and Health Sciences (up ten places from last year) and 87th in Arts and Humanities (last year it was in the 151-175 bracket). It is also in the 101-125 bracket in Education and Social Sciences (151-175 last year); 126-150 in Life Sciences and Psychology (151-175 last year); 176-200 in Physical Sciences (201-250 last year); 301-400 in Economics and Business and in Engineering and Technology (401-500 last year); and 126-150 in law, an area in which it remains the same as last year.

The UB is the Spanish leading institution in the areas of Clinical and Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Psychology, Physical Sciences and Engineering and Technology.

The World University Rankings by Subject uses 18 indicators that are already used in the global World University Rankings. The weighting of each indicator changes in the different disciplines to make a more accurate calculation for each subject area.

The UB was the top Spanish university in the latest edition of the World University Rankings, published in September. Specifically, it was ranked 152nd worldwide, thirty positions higher than in the previous edition.
