The Aula Magna of the UB's Historic Building today hosted the presentation of the degree in Cybersecurity, which will be taught by the School of New Interactive Technologies (ENTI-UB) from the academic year 2024-2025. This new university degree, which is a pioneer in Catalonia, was created in response to the high demand for professionals in this sector, in which there are an estimated 12,000 vacancies. The presentation was attended by the Vice-Rector for Digitalisation Policy, Xavier Triadó; the director of the Catalan Cybersecurity Agency, Tomàs Roy, and the director of the degree, Josuè Sallent.

Sallent explained that the degree is part of the engineering branch, will consist of four courses (240 FTE credits) and will offer forty places. "We must not only focus on creating good professionals: we must help to train good citizens and contribute to their personal development", said Sallent. The degree will incorporate a mention in data science to address the challenges arising from the existence and use of data.

The director of the degree has also announced that on 17 June, the first Cybersecurity hackathon in Catalonia will take place at the Bital Space in Hospitalet, aimed at students of higher education cycles. The aim is to serve as a meeting point to learn new skills and to be able to interact with companies in the sector.

The degree is part of the engineering branch, will consist of four courses (240 FTE credits) and will offer forty places.

On the other hand, the director of the Catalan Cybersecurity Agency, Tomàs Roy, expressed his satisfaction with the creation of this new degree, because it works along the lines of the professionalisation of cybersecurity: "We are at a sweet moment because our sector is now valued as a function. We need to continue working on training in the field, especially in terms of the acquisition of certain skills and profiles, such as auditors, forensic experts, incident managers, etc.", said Roy.

The vice-rector for Digitalisation Policy at the UB, Xavier Triadó, remarked that "the cybersecurity sector faces many challenges and needs continuous updating, which will be possible thanks to constant research". Triadó also highlighted three UB values that will characterise future graduates of this training programme: ethics, innovation and critical capacity.
