New edition of The UB in figures

Coinciding with the inauguration of the academic year, a new edition of The UB in Figures has been published, with the most important data for the academic year 2022-2023. The main magnitudes of the University of Barcelona and its academic activity, as well as the evolution of some variables over the last academic years, are shown in an understandable and attractive way.

This year, the document presents a new section on entrepreneurship, highlighting the projects incubated at StartUB!, the start-ups created and the people trained in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Coinciding with the inauguration of the academic year, a new edition of The UB in Figures has been published, with the most important data for the academic year 2022-2023. The main magnitudes of the University of Barcelona and its academic activity, as well as the evolution of some variables over the last academic years, are shown in an understandable and attractive way.

This year, the document presents a new section on entrepreneurship, highlighting the projects incubated at StartUB!, the start-ups created and the people trained in innovation and entrepreneurship.

 
The document also points out the University's extensive educational offer, with 73 undergraduate degrees, 16 simultaneous study itineraries, 172 university master's degrees and 47 doctoral programs. In total, more than 60,000 students: 41,095 undergraduate, 5,523 university master's and 10,644 postgraduate students, and more than 4,990 researchers in training. As a novelty, this year the document features the creation of the Faculty of Nursing, as well as the data from the latest study of job placement prepared by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU).

In terms of teaching improvement, some remarkable figures are that 82.6% of the teaching staff have taken some training at the Institute for Professional Development (IDP) in the last year, and that 856 UB staff members are involved in recognized teaching innovation projects. In the area of internationalization, data such as the 2,623 agreements in force with universities and other foreign institutions can be found.

In the research section, The UB in Figures shows the growing evolution of the number of scientific publications by UB researchers in indexed journals (which stands at 7,599) or the 1,111 active research projects. It also highlights the significant increase in funds raised for research and transfer: 232 million euros in 2022 compared to 192 million euros the previous year. It also notes that last year the UB, through the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG) — its technology and knowledge transfer office — managed 737 contracts for knowledge transfer and applied for 87 patents.

Another section refers to the staff, and it shows that in 2023 there will be 6,328 members of the teaching and research staff (48.8% women) and 2,370 members of the administrative and service staff (63.9% women). In the economic chapter, the 485 million euros of the budget are broken down by chapters. In terms of services, it can be read that the CRAI libraries have a collection of monographs and journals in hard copy amounting to 1,731,506 copies. The number of direct beneficiaries of the actions of the UB Solidarity Foundation (9,384) and members of Alumni UB (8,070) is also relevant.

Finally, it is also mentioned that, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Historic Building, activities such as exhibitions, concerts, tributes, conferences and competitions have been held.

The UB in Figures is a reference document both for the governing bodies and for all members of the university community. It is also a letter of presentation of the University to other institutions, both national and foreign, and to society as a whole. Prepared by the Technical Bureau at the Rector’s Office and published by UB Editions, this year 830 copies have been printed in Catalan, 430 in Spanish and 1,230 in English.
