The award, which is named after the illustrious French historian Jacques Le Goff (1924-2014) since 2008, was awarded during the 20th International History Festival, which this year is titled “History Belongs to Us”. This festival aims to promote and disseminate knowledge of history as a foundation and factor of awareness, responsibility and freedom of choice. It is an event that takes place in buildings, squares, streets, churches, cloisters, theatres and museums in Bologna, in many centres in the Emilia-Romagna region and in other Italian cities as well as abroad. It constitutes a continuous and vital connection between the University of Bologna and the cultural, scholastic and associative entities of this territory.

Since the slogan chosen for this year is “History belongs to Us”, the organizers thought it would be appropriate to award Professor Joaquim Prats for his intellectual and life journey, dedicated to the dissemination of the knowledge of history and current political and social situations, with a view to the dialogue and the multiplicity of perspectives.

Joaquim Prats (Valencia, 1949), graduated in Philosophy and Arts in 1972 at the University of Valencia, and he obtained his doctorate in 1987 at the University of Barcelona. He was awarded the Chair of Didactics of the Social Sciences in 1995. He majored in the didactics of history, the analysis of educational systems and the history of universities. He has written many works on the teaching methods of this discipline, and many studies on evaluation and educational quality. He is currently a researcher, emeritus professor of the Social Sciences Didactics Area at the University of Barcelona and president of the UB Athenaeum.
