Yesterday, Monday, 12 February, the Moritz Factory held the presentation of the university race, the Unirun 2024, which reaches its tenth edition this year. This time, the five thousand places were sold out (they were already sold out five weeks before the day of the race) and having become one of the most popular long-distance races (5,000 metres) on the athletes’ calendars.

The sponsor will be Martina Terré, water polo player in Club Natació Sant Andreu and also in the Spanish national team. She is currently studying the bachelor’s degree in Global Studies, in English, at the Pompeu Fabra University.

The race will take place on Sunday 3 March, and the route will run entirely along the waterfront of Barcelona's Sant Martí district. The start will be at 9.30am on the large esplanade of the Parc del Fòrum and the finish line will be on the straight at the Parc dels Auditoris. The time limit for the race will be one hour.

This year, the UB consolidates its leadership regarding the number of registered participants: 1,369. There are 85 members of the teaching and research staff (PDI) and 87 supporters. By centers, the Faculty of Economics and Business is the one that has brought more participants (211) followed by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (160), Biology (115) and Law (102). By gender, participation is totally equal (50% men and 50% women), and regarding the ages, the 72.58% of participants are less than 25 years old.

The Unirun is an athletic race created in 2015 by the twelve Catalan universities, grouped under the Catalan University Sport (ECU) umbrella. It is now a distinguished race in university sports, and in 2019 it obtained one award by the Catalan Foundation of Sports honouring the impact and originality of initiatives on the promotion of sport habits for society, as an essential instrument for improving people’s life quality.

This year, the solidary euro in the registration is for Djouma, a non-profit association that works to guarantee the right to an inclusive and fair health and education of quality in Mali, as well as for the empowerment of women in the country.
