The University of Barcelona is ranked 100th in the world among the 2000 universities included in the new Best Universities ranking and is also the Spanish leading institution in the list. This ranking of universities, published by the Research.com portal, is based on the work of the top scientists in the different disciplines affiliated to each institution.

The position of each university is based on a sum of the H-index values of its affiliated researchers that exceed the threshold defined for each discipline, according to the GScholar database. Specifically, for each discipline, a list of leading researchers is set according to the results obtained in this H-index, an indicator that quantifies scientific productivity and the impact of published articles. In the case of the UB, a total of 235 researchers are classified as leading scientists (some of whom are leading in more than one discipline). The second university in Spain is the Autonomous University of Barcelona, with 140 researchers. The ranking includes the results of 64 Spanish universities.

In parallel to the Best Universities ranking, the Best Scientist ranking has also been published, which lists the researchers with the best results according to the H-index and other indicators. The 227 leading UB researchers can be consulted on this link.
