The University of Barcelona stands out in 42 disciplines (two more than last year) of the 55 analysed in the new edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The UB is ranked among the top 50 in the world in Medicine and among the top 100 in a total of 23 disciplines, one more than in the previous edition. Moreover, the UB has consolidated its position as a national leader: it is the Spanish university that stands out in the most disciplines and achieves the top position in Spain in twenty subjects.

The University of Barcelona stands out in 42 disciplines (two more than last year) of the 55 analysed in the new edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The UB is ranked among the top 50 in the world in Medicine and among the top 100 in a total of 23 disciplines, one more than in the previous edition. Moreover, the UB has consolidated its position as a national leader: it is the Spanish university that stands out in the most disciplines and achieves the top position in Spain in twenty subjects.
This international ranking evaluates the position of 1,559 institutions worldwide in disciplines corresponding to the fields of Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Management, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Engineering and Technology. The University of Barcelona is among the top 100 in the world in Life Sciences and Medicine (55th position), Natural Sciences (59th) and Arts and Humanities (94th). In all three cases, positions have improved compared to the previous edition.
The UB is among the top 100 in the world in Medicine, Archaeology, Philosophy, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Biological Sciences, Psychology, Environmental Sciences, Education, Modern Languages, Physics and Astronomy, Chemical Engineering, Anatomy and Physiology, Dentistry, Anthropology, Marine and Earth Sciences, Geology, Geophysics, Restoration and Leisure Management, Nursing, Social Policy and Administration, Sociology, Development Studies and Associated Disciplines in Sport.
The rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Guàrdia, assesses these results: "This edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject once again demonstrates the excellence of the University of Barcelona's research. On the one hand, we have consolidated our leadership in Spain. On the other hand, the quality of research and teaching at the UB can be found in a wide range of subjects: we placed 23 disciplines among the top 100, one more than last year. We can speak of a 'diversification' of quality".
Regarding the indicators used in the ranking, the UB achieved a particularly good score in the number of citations of publications in Physics and Astronomy (95.3 out of 100). Regarding the h-index, an indicator that quantifies the productivity and impact of publications, the best score was achieved by Library and Information Science and Management (90.7). The best score in terms of reputation among employers was achieved by Library and Information Science and Management (86.1). In terms of academic reputation, the best score is 81.9 for Social Policy and Administration. About the international research collaboration indicator, the best score was achieved by Medicine (83.6).
