Among the attendants in this event were the vice-rector for Equal Opportunities and Gender, Montserrat Puig; the new rector's delegate for the direction of the Equality Unit, Núria Ferran, and the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Antoni Trilla.
The breastfeeding corner, located on the fourth floor of the Faculty of Medicine at the Clínic, is a cosy space of five square metres. It is equipped with a reclining chair and a small fridge for storing breast pumps. There is no sink, but it is close to the toilets and has a cellulose and hydroalcoholic ice dispenser. The fridge is funded by the master's degree in Senology, which is coordinated and directed by Aleix Prat, lecturer at the Department of Medicine.
The breastfeeding corner can be used by any member of the university community who needs to breastfeed, take milk or care for a baby while working at the faculty. To use it, please send an e-mail to the centre administrator (firstname.lastname@example.org) or to the logistics technician (email@example.com). This is the UB's second breastfeeding corner after the Science Park, and other rooms are currently being prepared or adapted for this use in other faculties, such as the Faculty of Economics and Business.
The delegate Núria Ferran said during the event that this is "one more action to promote the welfare of the entire university community and also enhance family reconciliation", and recalled that "these measures are already included in the Equality Plan".
The vice-rector for Equal Opportunities and Gender, Montserrat Puig, explained that this is an integral initiative within the university system, as well as a demand from the university community, as stated in the Survey on self-care, childcare and care for dependent people in March 2023. Likewise, the negotiating committee for the third area of the Equality Plan is working on similar actions, and the actions of the Guide to care, work-life balance and time management in the university community will soon be disseminated.
