The University of Barcelona is organizing, for the second time, a conference to explain the work carried out in the field of teaching assessment, and to boost the lecturers’ participation in this year’s call for the lecturers’ teaching evaluation.
The conference will take place on February 19, at the Aula Magna of the Historic Building, and it will be the starting point of the new call. It will include the participation of the president of the UB’s Teaching Assessment Committee (CADUB), Rosa Nonell, and Professor Alberto Prats, member of CADUB. Both will offer a global perspective of how the evaluation process is carried out at the University of Barcelona, and will talk about the evaluators’ tasks. Then, members of the Rector’s Office Technical Bureau will explain the key concepts and the features of this process, as well as the environment in which the lecturers carry out their evaluation.

Every year, at the UB, around 450 members of the teaching and research staff (PDI) are evaluated. This process includes nearly 350 assessment agents, apart from CADUB, formed by ten PDI members of the UB, representatives of each knowledge field.

A positive evaluation in the calls is considered when prioritizing candidacies in the lecturers’ selection and promotion processes, such as chair accesses. Furthermore, the number of positively assessed PDI members impacts the annual calculations for the funding of a department. Moreover, the percentage of participation of PDI in the assessment call becomes one of the indicators of the academic programme contract for which the UB faculties receive an annual funding on objectives. In addition, the PDI members the CADUB considers to develop teaching in an excellent manner are presented as candidates for the Board of Trustees Award to teaching quality.
