The University of Barcelona will host the first inter-university conference against male violence in universities on 21 November. The event, which will take place in the UB's Historic Building and can be followed on UBtv, will once again demonstrate the commitment of Catalan universities to the eradication of all forms of gender-based violence in the context of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The University of Barcelona will host the first inter-university conference against male violence in universities on 21 November. The event, which will take place in the UB's Historic Building and can be followed on UBtv, will once again demonstrate the commitment of Catalan universities to the eradication of all forms of gender-based violence in the context of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The official opening will be given by the vice-rector for Equal Opportunities and Gender, Montserrat Puig, and the president of the Women and Science Commission of the Inter-University Council of Catalonia (CIC), Esther Zapater. Then, the director of the UB's Equality Unit, Núria Ferran, will present the writer and journalist Cristina Fallaràs, winner of several awards for non-sexist communication, will give the opening lecture. 

University protocols as a response 

The conference includes the roundtable “University response to gender-based violence: Protocol-Guidelines for universities”, which will address the context and the current status of these tools which are included in the Protocol-guideline for universities to prevent and redress with due diligence situations o gender-based violence, sexual harassment and harassment based on sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, which was presented to the CIC’s Women and Science Commission. 

Among the roundtable participants are Laura Román, secretary general of the CIC; Montserrat Iglesias, lecturer at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona; Barbara Biglia, lecturer at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, and Maria Olivella, director of the Equality Unit at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Rosa Cerarols, professor at the Pompeu Fabra University, will chair the round table. 

The event will once again demonstrate the commitment of Catalan universities to the eradication of all forms of gender-based violence

The conference will continue with an interview with the singer Zahara, conducted by Catalunya Ràdio journalist Montserrat Virgili. The closing ceremony will include the participation of the Rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia, the Catalan Minister for Equality and Feminism, Tània Verge, and the Catalan Minister for Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal. The conference is organised by the University of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, Universitat Rovira i Virgili and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
