The University of Barcelona organized, for the second time, a session to share the work carried out in the field of teaching evaluation, and to encourage the teaching staff to participate in the annual calls for the teaching staff evaluation.
The session was held on 19 February at the Historic Building’s Aula Magna, where more than a hundred lecturers were present. The session was opened by the Vice-rector for Teaching Policy, Concepció Amat, and included the participation of the President of the UB’s Teaching Assessment Committee (CADUB), Rosa Nonell, and Professor Alberto Prats, member of CADUB. Both presented an overview on how the teaching evaluation is carried out at the UB and on what the task of the evaluators consists of. Then, Dolors Baena and Patricia Martínez, from the Rector’s Technical Bureau, presented the characteristics of the procedure, as well as the environment in which the lecturers carry out their evaluations. The session was the starting point for the new teaching staff evaluation call.

Every year, at the UB, around 450 members of the teaching and research staff (PDI) are evaluated. The process includes nearly 350 evaluators, apart from CADUB, formed by PDI members of the UB representing the different knowledge areas.

A positive evaluation in these calls is considered when prioritizing applications in selection and promotion of teaching staff processes, such as access to chairs. Furthermore, the number of PDI positively evaluated impacts the annual calculation of a department’s funding. In addition, the participation percentage of PDI members in the evaluation call becomes one of the indicators of the academic programme contract, through which the UB faculties receive annual funding according to the achievement of objectives. Moreover, the PDI members that CADUB considers to have carried out their task excellently are suggested as candidates to the Board of Trustees Award to Teaching Quality.
