On 8 November, the Plenary of Parliament approved the appointment of seven new members of the Council for Research and Innovation in Catalonia (CORICAT), including Joan Elias, professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and former rector of the University of Barcelona.
These appointments are in addition to the seven members appointed by the Government last July, and allow the planned timetable for the deployment of the Law on Science in Catalonia (LCC), approved with a broad parliamentary consensus in December 2022, to continue to be fulfilled. This appointment is for a period of five years, renewable for a further five years, and with effect from the date of constitution of CORICAT.

CORICAT is the advisory body of the Government of Catalonia for taking the Catalonia's major strategic decisions in the fields of research and innovation. It was created as part of the deployment of the Catalan Science Law (LCC), approved in December 2022.

In addition to Elias, the members of this board are Nora Ventosa, research professor at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC); Nuria Montserrat, ICREA research professor at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC); Lluís Blanch, Director of Research and Innovation at Consorci Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí de Sabadell; Xavier Ferràs, Professor of Economics (Esade - URL); Lluís Torner, Director of the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), and Anna Maria Pla, Professor at the University of Girona (UdG).
