The first survey on gender perspective in teaching at the UB, filled in by the teaching staff, has received 405 answers. The questions revolved around five axes: inclusive syllabus, methodologies and learning environment; assessment; references and bibliography, and non-sexist language.
The results show, among other aspects, that in 167 cases the new content with gender perspective has been included compared to the previous academic year, and that in 95 cases, the assessment has been reviewed in order to make it inclusive regarding gender. Also, many of the received answers (in particular, 354) show that the language has been reviewed to make it more inclusive. The survey has detected some needs, such as more bibliographic references on how to introduce gender perspective in specific subjects or more training for the teaching staff. The vice-rector for Equality and Gender, Montserrat Puig, says this first survey “is a pilot test to identify strategies that should be taken to add gender perspective to education, and it strengthens the idea that it is necessary to include this competence in the syllabuses”. The results of the survey were presented in the session “Introduction of gender perspective in education at the UB”, which took place on March 4 and is available here.
