More than two hundred secondary and high school students will have the opportunity to participate in the National Festival of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology 10alamenos9, which this year reaches its ninth edition. In this event, organized by the Scientific and Technological Centres of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB), some of the UB’s main research centres will disseminate knowledge of the world of small things through workshops, round tables, seminars and science performances, among other activities.
The conference will take place on 16 April at the CosmoCaixa facilities. From 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., Sònia Trigueros, Xavier Batlle and Teresa Andreu, specialists from the UB’s Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (IN2UB), will discuss how nanotechnology can shape the future in terms of sustainability, health and energy.

In the dissemination workshops, different UB research centres will explain, through simple experiments, the impact of nanotechnology on everyday life. In addition, in the Agora Room in CosmoCaixa, the CCiTUB has organized an exciting escape room in which participants will have to overcome different tests to learn the secrets of nanotechnology. The research area of START UB will also coordinate an activity in which solutions to global challenges linked to sustainability will be proposed from the perspective of nanotechnology.

These 10alamenos9 Festival activities are complemented by others that will take place on 18 April at the Joan Oliver "Pere Quart" Civic Centre, such as the photographic exhibition "Nano World: the incredible world of insects", with photographs of micro and nanostructural analysis of different insects, taken with the scanning electron microscopes (SEM) of the CCiTUB, in collaboration with the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona.
