The Meienhofer Award has been given biennially since 2007 and rarely goes to a researcher from outside the United States. It is named after Johannes Meienhofer for his discoveries, which demonstrated the power of medicinal chemistry in peptide pharmacology. Albericio, who has focused his research career on this area, will receive the award in September at the Boulder Peptide Symposium in Colorado.

Fernando Albericio earned his PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Barcelona in 1981, and in 1995 he became a professor of Organic Chemistry. He was also the general manager of the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Buenos Aires in recognition of his teaching and research work. Throughout his extensive professional career, he has published more than 1000 scientific articles, among other contributions. He is a member of editorial boards and committees of prestigious international scientific journals.
