Today, 17 October, the Governing Council of the University of Barcelona, which met in extraordinary session, has approved the call for elections at the Rector’s Office of the University of Barcelona and the electoral calendar.

Today, 17 October, the Governing Council of the University of Barcelona, which met in extraordinary session, has approved the call for elections at the Rector’s Office of the University of Barcelona and the electoral calendar.

 
The elections will be held electronically and will take place from 4 December at 10.00 a.m. to 5 December at 6.00 p.m., in the first round. If no candidate obtains an absolute majority, the second round will take place from 14 December at 10:00 a.m. to 15 December at 6:00 p.m., with the two candidates with the most votes in the first round.

The elections, in accordance with the requirements of the Organic Law of the University System and the Statute of the University of Barcelona, will be held by direct election and free and secret universal suffrage. According to the approved electoral calendar, the electoral roll (to which one must be registered to vote) will be made public on 18 October. Nominations can be submitted from 3 to 14 November. Candidates will be proclaimed by the Electoral Board on 15 November and the election campaign will take place from 20 November to 1 December.

In total, more than 54,000 people will have the right to vote. There are four groups of voters in the Rector’s Office elections, each of whose vote has a different value: doctoral teaching staff on open-ended contract (the combined vote of this group has a value of 51% of the total); other teaching and research staff (value equivalent to 9% of the total); first and second cycle and doctoral students (30%); and administration and services staff (10%).
