On Monday, October 2 at 6:00 p.m., the Auditorium of the Historic Building of the University of Barcelona will host the inauguration of the 2023-2024 academic year. The event, which will be streamed on this link, will be hosted by the communicator Òscar Dalmau and the singer and composer Sara Roy.

The University is science, technology and literature, but it also offers a wide variety of training, teaching and professional opportunities linked to artistic disciplines. This year, coinciding with the commemoration of the death of Pau Casals, and the centenary of the birth of Victoria dels Àngels and Antoni Tàpies — the three artists, given an honorary doctorate in 1939, 1987 and 1988, respectively —, with the motto “The University is art” the inauguration of the academic year aims to vindicate the role of art at the University.

The event will present major innovations in format and presentation, with the aim of making it closer to students and the university community in general. It will revolve around three thematic axes — art and science; art and technology; and art and humanities —, which will showcase the artistic component of the UB's educational, teaching and professional offerings. In addition, four video-mappings will be projected, inviting reflection on the role of art in the university. The hosts of the event will present the different artistic performances and interventions that will take place during the event.

Afterwards, the institutional speeches of the rector of the University, Joan Guàrdia, the president of the Board of Trustees, Joan Corominas, and the councilor for Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal, will bring the ceremony to a close with the singing of Gaudeamus igitur.
