The Paranimph of the University of Barcelona was the chosen space for the closing ceremony of the campaign “Escolta, Europa”, led by the Catalan Government to promote the participation of Catalan citizens in the Conference on the Future of Europe.

The ceremony was presided by the Minister of Foreign Action and Open Government, Victòria Alsina, and among the attendants were the former Presidents of the Catalan Government Jordi Pujol, Artur Mas, Carles Puigdemont and Quim Torra, who took part in the first roundtable, as well as Catalan members of the European Parliament from other legislatures, such as Oriol Junqueras, Toni Comín, Joan Colom and Concepció Ferrer, who took part in the second roudtable. Former President José Montilla, participated through a recording.

The rector of the UB highlighted the suitability of organizing such a ceremony in a place like the University of Barcelona. “For a university like ours, talking about Europe is talking about our daily life”. And he added: “I could not think of a better place to send this message about the future of Europe”.

Minister Alsina described the ceremony as “a united Europeansʼ clamour”. “A Catalonia without a European vocation —she said— is exposed to failure, but Europe will also fail if it does not consider the will of Catalonia”.
