Today, the University of Barcelona presented the new science Easter cake to the entire university community. This year's figure is a chocolate biologist, equipped with a butterfly net and accompanied by a replica of a DNA chain.

The rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia, highlighted the fact that the initiative Mones de Ciència disseminates "through such an everyday mechanism as an Easter cake". "It is no coincidence that it is designed for children and that the complicity of parents is necessary", he added, and highlighted the symbolism of this project by La UB Divulga. Marga Becerra, from the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I), emphasized that the initiative "aims to bring the knowledge we generate in the UB ecosystem closer to the general public". Raquel Rabionet, from the Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Statistics, highlighted the added value of this mona: Mia is accompanied by a QR code, through which children and families can access a website with very accessible and interactive informative content. Núria Bonada, from the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, defended the tradition of the mona "which appears in spring, when all the biological cycles are in high spirits".

The sweetest part of the speeches was given by the pastry chef Adrià Ruiz and the president of the Barcelona Confectionery Guild, Antoni Bellart. They celebrated the link that the mona has created between the world of patisserie and the world of science, predicting a lasting success for this joint project.

At the end of the event, two biologist mones were raffled among the attendees.
