The Catalan researcher, Anna Fontcuberta, will be the new president of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Fontcuberta, who graduated in Physics at the University of Barcelona, will be the first woman to lead this prestigious institution as of January 1, 2025 for a four-year term.

The Catalan researcher, Anna Fontcuberta, will be the new president of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Fontcuberta, who graduated in Physics at the University of Barcelona, will be the first woman to lead this prestigious institution as of January 1, 2025 for a four-year term.
The 49-year-old researcher is a full professor of materials science and engineering at EPFL. She received her PhD from the Ecole Polytechnique de Palaiseau (France). She has been a visiting researcher at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena (USA) and at the Technical University of Munich (Germany), where she obtained her accreditation in experimental physics.
She is also co-founder of the start-up company Aonex Technologies. Previously, she led the service of the Swiss National Science Foundation, of which she has been a member of the management committee since 2020. In addition, she is active in several scientific boards, committees and organizations.
