‘Tauró galàctic’ and ‘Alçant el vol’ win the fotoNAT-UB Competition 2023

The photograph Tauró galàctic, by Pepe Bosch, member of the Departament of Electronic and Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Physics, has won the first prize in the nature category of the 17th edition of the Nature Photography Competition fotoNAT-UB, promoted by the Animal Biodiversity Resource Center (CRBA). The first prize in the zoology category was awarded to the photograph Alçant el vol, by Elisa Mora, a former student of the CRBA's Nature Photography courses.

The photograph Tauró galàctic, by Pepe Bosch, member of the Departament of Electronic and Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Physics, has won the first prize in the nature category of the 17th edition of the Nature Photography Competition fotoNAT-UB, promoted by the Animal Biodiversity Resource Center (CRBA). The first prize in the zoology category was awarded to the photograph Alçant el vol, by Elisa Mora, a former student of the CRBA's Nature Photography courses.

 

The awarded works in the fotoNAT-UB 2023 were announced on Tuesday, December 12, at a ceremony held in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Biology. Among the attendees were the Vice-rector for Research, Jordi García Fernández; the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Rosina Gironès, and the director of the CRBA, Antoni Serra, professor of the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences and the Biodiversity Research Institute of the UB (IRBio).

In the nature category, the second prize went to Vides en perill, by Joan de la Malla, a former student of the CRBA Nature Photography courses. Runner-up prizes were also awarded to CRBA alumni Antoni Torres, for Despertar al Fitz Roy; Núria Prat, for Petrificats, and Enrique Mariscal, for En terra de dracs, and Alumni UB member Jordi Cañizares, for Les dents i les entranyes de Finestres.

In the zoology category, second prize went to La plenitud de la mirada, by Jaume Sánchez, a student on the master's degree in Biodiversity at the Faculty of Biology. The runners-up were Xavier Alonso, for Món inevitablement compartit, and Gerard Martín, for Formiga sobre tortuga and Esvaïment blanc, and the former student of the CRBA Nature Photography courses, Antoni Torres, for Convivència.

The 17th UB fotoNAT competition received a total of 164 submissions from 86 members of the university community (47 students, 8 members of Alumni UB, 21 alumni of the CRBA courses, 7 members of the PTGAS and 3 members of the PDI). As every year, the winning and finalist photographs are displayed in an exhibition at the CRBA headquarters, in the Faculty of Biology. The exhibition, which includes a video with all the images submitted to the competition, can also be seen on its website.
