The Ramon Margalez Ecology Prize was introduced by the Catalan Government in 2004 to honor the figure of the lecturer Ramon Margalef (1919-2004), the first professor of Ecology in Spain and lecturer at the University of Barcelona from 1967 to 1986, when he retired.
