For the last one hundred years, increasing human pressure on ecosystems has led to a worldwide crisis of biodiversity which has severly affected many fauna groups, particularly carnivores. Several carnivore species have becoming extinct in a great number of their original habitats.

In the 21st century, the adoption of models that enable the coexistence of human activity and carnivore species is a key aspect to recover endangered species. Therefore, carnivore ecology must be known and understood, as well as the different social, economic and political factors that regulate their presence in the territory.
