Xxxx is elected rector of the University of Barcelona

XX is the new rector of the University of Barcelona, after obtaining the Xxx% of the weighted voting in the first round of the election to the Rectorʼs Office, which took place on December 10 and 11. The other candidates, XX and X, obtained the XX% and XX% of the weighted voting, respectively. XXX will head the government of the University for a 4-year mandate.

XX is the new rector of the University of Barcelona, after obtaining the Xxx% of the weighted voting in the first round of the election to the Rectorʼs Office, which took place on December 10 and 11. The other candidates, XX and X, obtained the XX% and XX% of the weighted voting, respectively. XXX will head the government of the University for a 4-year mandate.

The elections, which have been held online for the first time due to COVID-19, have taken place with no remarkable incident. More than 54,000 people from different university collectives were called to vote. XX electors have voted, accounting for a xx% of the total. In the last election, held in 2016, a 16.10% of the census voted.

Out of the emitted votes during these two days of electronic voting, XX were given to the candidates and XX were blank.

Joan Guàrdia Olmos is a professor of Methodology of Behavioural Sciences at the Faculty of Psychology. He arrived at the University of Barcelona as a student of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and combined these studies with Psychology. Expert on statistics and the systematic study of human behaviour, he has taught at the Faculty of Psychology, as well as the faculties of Pharmacy, Economics and Business, Geography and History, Nursing, Education and Biology.

He has given seminars and courses and has supervised doctoral theses in several national and international universities. He has published more than 30 books and more than 260 science articles, apart from being the principal researcher of many research projects. Guàrdia has held several positions in academic management and is now member of the Institute of Neurosciences of the UB and the Institute of Complex Systems (UBICS), where he does research on quantitative and computational neuroscience.

David Vallespín Pérez is a professor of Procedural Law at the University of Barcelona. He teaches in the bachelorʼs degrees of Law, Criminology and the masterʼs degree on Legal Practice of the UB. He takes part in teaching innovation initiatives and projects such as the Interdisciplinary Group on Masters.

Vallespín is part of the Department of Administrative Law, Procedural Law and Financial and Tax Law of the UB, from which he has been the secretary. He has held several positions in management at the University, such as the rectorʼs delegate and vice-rector for Structures and Governance of the UB.

He has published more than fifteen legal monographies and has taken part in many collective works. Also, he is the author of several scientific books, as well as external evaluator and member of the directive board of legal journals. He is member of the Transjus Research Institute and has carried out several training stays in European universities, and has launched international agreements in the Ibero-American area.

Joan Elias i Garcia is a professor of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Barcelona. He has dedicated great part of his academic life to teaching but also to research, which is framed within the field of commutative algebra, and more specifically, the local study of algebraic varieties and its derived computational problems. He has been principal researcher in several research projects, national networks and integrated actions in several countries.

Elias has combined teaching and research with university management. He has been the head of studies and dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, and since 2016, the rector of the University of Barcelona. Moreover, he has collaborated in several scientific societies, such as the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society, the European Mathematical Society and the Catalan Mathematical Society.
