Tomorrow, Thursday, December 10, at 10 a.m., the period to vote for the Rectorʼs Office election of the University of Barcelona opens. People can vote until Friday, December 11, at 8 p.m. For the first time, the Rectorʼs Office election will be carried out through e-voting, given the current health situation resulting from COVID-19. One can vote using any computer, tablet or phone device with access to Internet.

People can vote until Friday, December 11, at 8 p.m. For the first time, the Rectorʼs Office election will be carried out through e-voting, given the current health situation resulting from COVID-19. One can vote using any computer, tablet or phone device with access to Internet.

There are three candidates to the Rectorʼs Office of the UB. These are: Joan Guàrdia, professor of Methodology of Behavioural Sciences, David Vallespín, professor of Procedural Law, and Joan Elias, professor of Mathematics and current rector.  

More than 52,000 people are called to vote

This will be the fifth time, according to the current legislation, the new rector will be elected by the university community through direct election and free and secret universal suffrage. A total of more than 52,000 people have the right to vote. 

The vote is weighted by sectors of the university community, according to the percentages set in the UB Statute: doctoral permanent professors account for 51% of the total; the other teaching and research staff, 9%; undergraduate, masterʼs and doctoral students, 30%, and administration and services staff, 10%.

If none of the candidates gets the absolute majory, there will be a second round on Thursday, December 17, at 10 a.m. until Friday, December 18 at 8 p.m., which would be available only for the two most voted candidates in the first round, and the candidate with the most single votes will be announced rector.
