The University of Barcelonaʼs Senate held an extraordinary session on May 5 and 6 to approve of the institutionʼs Statute reform, which dated back to 2003. Part of its articles demanded to be updated in order to get adapted to the previous laws.

The proposed text set out with a wide consensus. Over the course of the day, the Senate debated and voted on 28 amendments out of the 200 that were presented. The 90% of the proposed articles by the report did not get any amendment, or if any, these were either secluded, transactioned or entirely accepted. A 75% of the presented amendments by the members of the Senate were accepted and put into the definite text which today was to be voted on. The result of the voting of the 28 amendments respects the reportʼs position.

The lack of reinforced quorum -necessary to give value to the definite vote for the articles proposed- has provoked the cancelation of the event, once the schedule deadline has been reached in the Senateʼs call. According to the University of Barcelonaʼs Statute article 182.3, in order to approve of any modification for this rules it is necessary to get an absolute majority: 151 votes in favour out of the 300 cloisters that there are. During the voting there were only 147 members of the Senate present. The Senateʼs board will decide on the procedureʼs continuation.
