More than 350 experts participate in the 17th International Congress of Comparative Endocrinology (ICCE 2012), a scientific conference that takes place from 15th to 19th July at the Faculty of Biology. The congress is chaired by Dr Joaquim Gutiérrez, professor from the Department of Physiology and Immunology and coordinator of the Organizing Committee, also composed by professors Isabel Navarro, Encarnació Capilla and Josep V. Planas, from the former Department.

More than 350 experts participate in the 17th International Congress of Comparative Endocrinology (ICCE 2012), a scientific conference that takes place from 15th to 19th July at the Faculty of Biology. The congress is chaired by Dr Joaquim Gutiérrez, professor from the Department of Physiology and Immunology and coordinator of the Organizing Committee, also composed by professors Isabel Navarro, Encarnació Capilla and Josep V. Planas, from the former Department.

 

 

On Monday 15th July, at 5 p.m., the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Biology, affiliated centre with the campus of international excellence BKC, hosts the opening ceremony of the congress. Stacia Sower, from the University of New Hampshire (United States) gives the lecture “Discovery and evolution of gonadotropins and their receptors”. The dean of the Faculty, Dr Joaquim Gutiérrez, chairs the ceremony. Dr Gutiérrez also leads the Consolidated Research Group on Growth Regulation and Optimization of Aquaculture Interesting Fish Species and has directed the R+D Innovation Network on Aquaculture of the Government of Catalonia since 2007.
 
ICCE 2013 includes scientific symposiums, poster presentation and speech that analyse aspects such as the latest advances on research fields such as: evolution of endocrine functions, control of reproduction, stress adaptation, evolution and development, molecular mechanism of sex determination and differentiation, environmental endocrine disruptions, development of endocrine glands, neuroendocrinology, control of metabolism, biorhythms, etc. The best works presented throughout the congress by young researchers will be awarded on the closing ceremony which takes place on Friday 17th July, at 5 p.m.
 
It is important to remember that the Faculty of Biology hosted the 9th Congress of the Asociación Ibérica de Endocrinología Comparada (AIEC) on 13th and 14th July; it was a scientific forum chaired by Dr Isabel Navarro, professor from the Department of Physiology and Immunology of the UB.
