The Historic Building of the UB hosts today, Tuesday 15th January, a meeting of the Consortium for Advanced Studies in Barcelona (CASB), in which participate eight of the most prestigious North-American universities and five Catalan universities: the University of Barcelona, the Pompeu Fabra University, the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Technical University of Catalonia. The objective of the meeting is to promote the exchange of students and researchers.

The North American universities which form part of the consortium are: Brown University, University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Stanford University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Harvard University and Princeton University. In addition, Duke University is expected to enter the consortium. The Barcelonaʼs meeting is opened by the vice-rector for International Policy of the UB, Dr Maria Callejón, and the president of CASB, Kendall W. Brostuen. During the sessions, several representatives of North American and Catalan universities which are part of the CASB will speak; finally, a round table will be performed to debate the new action proposals within the consortium.

CASB has been working for five years. Currently, CASB is presided by the University of Barcelona and Brown University. Up to now, thanks to this consortium, about 300 students coming from North American universities have been able to study in Barcelona. These students do not enrol in one university; instead they are able to attend to several subjects in all the Barcelonaʼs universities which are part of CASB. Students can attend lessons given in any language except in English. Moreover, within the consortium, young researchers of Catalan universities have done research stays in North American universities.
