On 19 February, Professor Rafael Bisquerra pronounces a lecture on the basis of emotional well-being, his area of expertise. He has just published the book Cuestiones sobre bienestar (Síntesis, 2013). Alumni UB organises the lecture that takes place in the Aula Magna of the Historic Building. Bisquerra is professor of Psychoeducational Guidance and director of masterʼs degrees and postgraduate courses at the University of Barcelona (UB). Moreover, he has organised the Conference on Emotional Education for ten years.

“When media speak about well-being, they generally refer to material well-being, in other words, to economic and technological development. This is an important type of well-being, but it is not enough to achieve happiness”, affirms Bisquerra. The expert explains that there are other types of well-being that remain quite unknown and constitute the basis of global well-being: physical, social, professional and emotional wellbeing. Therefore, “media should provide citizens with the knowledge offered by the science of well-being and contribute to build organizations directed towards global well-being, not only material one”.

Bisquerra founded and directs the Research Group on Psychoeducational Guidance (GROP), and he co-founded the Emotional Education Foundation. He has focused his research activity on emotional education since mid-1990s and he has published many books on this subject area: Educación emocional.

At UB, he coordinates the postgraduate courses in Emotional Education and Well-Being, Emotional Intelligence in Organizations and Coaching at the Work Environment. He also directs the masterʼs degrees in Emotional Intelligence and Coaching in the Workplace, and Emotional Education and Tutorial Guidance. Now, he is organising the International Conference on Emotional Education that takes place from 4 to 6 April at the Paranymph Hall of the University of Barcelona. Outstanding experts in the field of emotional education have already confirmed their participation in the conference.
