Definite proclamation of candidates for the Rector's office elections of the University of Barcelona

The Permanent Election Board of the University of Barcelona proclaimed today, definitely and after there was no complaint, the seven official candidatures for the Rectorʼs office elections of the University. The election campaign will start on Tuesday November 10 and it will be prolonged until November 24. The elections for the Rectorʼs office of the UB will take place on November 28, and it will be the fourth time, according to the current legislation, that the new rector will be elected by the university community via direct election and universal, free and secret ballot. If any candidate gets the absolute majority on November 28, there will be second round on December 1, in which only the two candidates with more votes on the first round will be voted, and the one who has more votes will be appointed new rector.

The candidates are, in alphabetical order, Norbert Bilbeny, professor of Ethics; Joan Elias, professor of Mathematics; Rafael Franco, professor of Biochemistry; Joan Guàrdia, professor of Methodology of Behavioral Sciences; Eduardo L. Mariño, professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology; Màrius Rubiralta, professor of Organic Chemistry; and David Vallespín, professor of Procedural Law.

 

Around 63.000 people are called to vote

Around 63.000 electors with right to vote form the electoral roll of the University. The vote is analyzed by sectors of the university community, according to the percentages set in the UB Statute: permanent doctorate teaching staff (the total of the vote of this collective has a value of 51%); other teaching and research staff (9% of the total); students (30%); administration and service staff (10%).
