The European Parliament commissioned the Laboratory of Knowledge Transfer on Applied Economics (AQR-Lab) of the University of Barcelona (UB) to conduct the study Wage dispersion in the EU. A group of experts composed by Jordi Suriñach, Enrique López Bazo, Raúl Ramos and Vicente Royuela, members of AQR-Lab, together with researchers of the German Institute for Economics Research (DIW), was selected to carry out the study.
The main objective of the study is to analyse the role that structural policies, particularly those that make reference to labour market regulation, play in recent changes in salary inequality among EU members. Moreover, the study will provide a detailed analysis of the effects that the bargaining system, the importance of a minimum wage and the coexistence of different quality job positions have on wage inequality.
