UB continues at the same position in ARWU and is one of the best 100 universities in Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy
This global ranking is once again topped by American universities. Harvard University, Stanford University, the University of California Berkeley and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are placed at first positions. The top European one is the University of Cambridge, placed at number 5. It is important to remark that ARWU, which lists the best 500 worldwide universities, only mentions the best 100 on its website. If those indicators making reference to Nobel Prizes (Alumni and Award) are not considered, we observe that UB keeps its position with regard to the number of highly cited researchers. In addition, it improves its position concerning the number of articles published on the journals Nature and Science, the number of articles indexed on Science Citation Index - Expanded (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and its per capita performance. Regarding subject fields, a fall can be observed in Physics, although it is one of the fields, together with Chemistry, in which UB gets the best global results.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities establishes classifications in the following subject fields: Natural Sciences and Mathematics; Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences; Life and Agriculture Sciences; Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy, and Social Sciences. Moreover, ARWU publishes rankings in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, and Economics and Business. ARWU adopts six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals; the number of highly cited researchers in 21 research fields established by Thomson ISI (Institute for Scientific Information); the number of articles published in the journals Nature and Science; the number of articles indexed on Science Citation Index - Expanded (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI); and, finally, per capita performance.
