The UB tops once again the I-UGR Ranking of Spanish Universities according to Fields and Scientific Disciplines 2013, a classification based on the research published by Spanish public and private universities on high-impact and high-visibility international journals for the period 2008-2012. The main purpose of this classification is to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of Spanish university research system in several subject areas. It shows the results of Spanish university institutions in 12 scientific fields and 37 disciplines.

The UB tops once again the I-UGR Ranking of Spanish Universities according to Fields and Scientific Disciplines 2013, a classification based on the research published by Spanish public and private universities on high-impact and high-visibility international journals for the period 2008-2012. The main purpose of this classification is to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of Spanish university research system in several subject areas. It shows the results of Spanish university institutions in 12 scientific fields and 37 disciplines.

According to the new Ranking I-UGR, the UB is the leading Spanish university in 6 out of 12 scientific fields: Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Medicine and Pharmacy, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Psychology and Education and Other Social Sciences.

In scientific disciplines, the UB tops the classification in University 11 out of 37 areas: Chemistry, Vegetal and Animal Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Virology, Pharmacy and Toxicology, Medicine, Neuroscience, Geoscience, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, Political Science and Psychology. As in previous editions, any other Spanish university is more outstanding than the UB in the scientific fields and disciplines analysed by I-UGR Ranking.

This is the fourth edition of I-UGR Ranking of Spanish Universities according to Scientific Fields and Disciplines that is carried out by a group of experts form the universities of Granada and Navarra. Using as a source of information Thomson Reuters (former ISI) Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports databases, the classification orders universities considering IFQ2A-Index, which summarizes six bibliometric indicators of scientific production and impact. In addition, research activity results are grouped by autonomous communities. Considering the results obtained by public universities, Catalonia is the most outstanding autonomous community.
