The new website of La UB divulga has been recently set up in order to collect all science dissemination activities organised by the University of Barcelona. The website includes the activities coordinated by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) as well as those developed by UB lecturers and researchers. It allows any person linked with the University organising a science dissemination activity to send some information in order to be published and spread.

La UB divulga also releases a Twitter profile, thus extending its presence on social networks, which started in 2011 with a Facebook profile.

The new website of La UB divulga has been recently set up in order to collect all science dissemination activities organised by the University of Barcelona. It allows any person linked with the University organising a science dissemination activity to send some information in order to be published and spread.

La UB divulga also releases a Twitter profile, thus extending its presence on social networks, which started in 2011 with a Facebook profile.

The website collects all science dissemination activities

All activities published on the website —the ones which take place at the University as well as those which happen out of it— aim at promoting people's interest in scientific knowledge, increasing citizens' scientific culture and contributing to the awakening of scientific vocations among young students and children. Activitiesʼ format and topics are diverse, but they are all addressed to a non-specialized audience.

Therefore, the University of Barcelona goes for getting closer to society in order to attain responsible research and innovation, according to the guidelines of Horizon 2020, the European programme to fund research and innovation projects between 2014 and 2020.

Research results and activities on social networks

The two different profiles of La UB divulga on Facebook and Twitter meet the need to increase the visibility of research results and science dissemination activities on social networks. Enric I. Canela, vice-rector for Science Polity of UB and director of the Doctorate School, agrees these strategies, particularly if we consider that the daily scientific production of the University of Barcelona is high. The UB publishes an average of ten scientific papers a day. In order to fulfil the challenge of disseminating the research carried out at the University, La UB divulga attempts to make culture available to everyone.

“If we achieve to bring citizens closer to part of our research, our social recognition will increase and our role in society will be more important. That means that public powers will recognise more our work and we will probably get more funds. We will attain an increase in the number of people interested in our work; more knowledge transfer means more innovation”, concludes Dr Canela.
