UB collaborates in TEDxBarcelonaChange, which takes place on 3rd April, about global health, development and cooperation
The University of Barcelona collaborates in the organization of the social entrepreneurship event TEDxBarcelonaChange 2013, which takes place on 3rd April, at 6 p.m., in the headquarters of the Official College of Odontologists and Stomatologists of Catalonia (COEC). The event will gather international prestigious experts who will analyse from different perspectives and fields of knowledge the main topic of the conference: “Positive disruption in global health, development and cooperation”. The UB supports this initiative by means of the Commissioner for Participation, Employability and Social Entrepreneurship, the Commissioner for Social Development and Ageing, and UB Solidarity Foundation.

It is an initiative devoted to ideas worth spreading in the areas of global health and development. It is meant to help facilitate meaningful discussions on topics including vaccines, polio, malaria, HIV/AIDS, maternal and newborn child health and agricultural development.
Jordi Martí is one of the participating speakers that can be highlighted. He is the founder of DBS Screening and has developed an early blood diagnosis system for infectious as well as chronic diseases, accessible for underprivileged or out of reach communities. Another remarkable speaker is Quique Bassat, who is currently working at CRESIB, the research centre of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) where he coordinates the implementation of projects related to malaria in countries as Mozambique, Brasil, India or Papúa New Guinea. Other outstanding speakers are: Joya Barnerjee, co-founder of the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS in New York; Lluís Pareras, director of Healthequity, a venture capital fund investing in healthcare; Paula Farias, former president of Doctors without Borders in Spain; Fran Equiza, Oxfam GBʼs Regional Director for the Horn, East and Central Africa; and Jordi Renart, responsible for Partnerships and External Relations for the United Nations World Food Programme in East and Central Africa.
The programme of the event combines live speeches on projects related to the city of Barcelona (Breakthroughs made in Barcelona), with live streaming TEDxChange Seattle lectures; so, debate and networking want to be promoted.
