The University of Barcelona has its winner for the institutional phase of the competitions “3 Minute thesis”, from Coimbra Group, and “4 Minute thesis”, from the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi). Konstantina Theofanopoulou, from the doctoral program on Cognitive Science and Language, won the finals with her presentation “Are modern humans self-domesticated?” and will be the UB representative in both interuniversity competitions. Theopanopoulou presented her research in front of the jury. With this explanation, Theofanopoulou won the first prize, receiving an iPad. The second award was given to Rosa Diego, from the program on Nanosciences, with “Making things smaller”, and Ana Martina Greco, from the program on Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, with “A hidden reality”. Each of them received a € 100 gift voucher to spend in FNAC.

Selection process

The Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) of the UB called for researchers in-training to explain their research in a short video to a general public. Out of the twenty-five submitted proposals, nine were selected, and these were presented in the finals. The director of the Doctoral School, Francesc Xavier Rogié, presented the activity, which was held in the room Ramón y Cajal in the Historical Building.

Theofanopoulou will read her presentation at the FCRi finals, to be held in June, and where she will compete with other representatives from Catalan universities. Also, she enters the European selection phase of Coimbra Group, and if she is selected, she will take part in the finals that will be held in Salamanca and will gather the three best international university speakers.
