Information statement on the events at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona
Below is a summary of the events that took place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona on the night of October 22 and October 23..
• Over the course of this last night, a group of students decided to stay inside the Faculty of Law of the UB as a sign of protest concerning the exceptional situation taking place these days in Catalonia.
• In the morning, a police security patrol from the Catalan Government - Mossos dʼEsquadra, passed by the Faculty of Law when a small group of people in front of the Faculty (avinguda Diagonal) were moving street furniture to place it at the doors of the center.
• The police decided to get closer, but the agents did not enter any building of the Faculty of Law. There has been no violent confrontation between the students and the police officers.
• To prevent any security problem from happening, which could put in danger the physical integrity of people and material of the center, the University of Barcelona decided to close the Faculty of Law and suspend all the academic activity today.
We ask the university community to keep calm, to respect peaceful coexistence and to defend the culture of peace.
