The first computers from the aid program Connecta UB are distributed
The first laptops from the extraordinary aid program Connecta UB have been distributed to the students. A total of 208 grants in the form of the temporary use of a laptop (for 120 students), a basic connection to Internet (52 benefiters) and both options together (36 benefiters). The University of Barcelona wants to mitigate the digital gap and guarantee equal opportunities for all students during this semester, due to the suspension of the face-to-face academic activities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The University of Barcelona wants to mitigate the digital gap and guarantee equal opportunities for all students during this semester, due to the suspension of the face-to-face academic activities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Out of the 281 requests, some have been dismissed if the student did not fill the requirements that were stated in the conditions (having a general grant from the Ministry, or the Equitat grant in the category of tram 1 from AGAUR, or BkUB in the modality A). Also, some students who had the Connecta UB grant renounced because they could get a computer in another way. The UB is working to solve those situations that could not be attended in this grant call.
Connecta UB is aimed at those students with economic difficulties who do not have the necessary technological tools to continue with their online academic activities. The period of cession of the equipment will finish when the UB states the situation of need reaches its end. The initial amount assigned by the UB to this program is of 100,000 euros. Also, the call is open to the collaboration from companies, institutions and privates that wish to contribute through crowdfunding, to the extension of the financial aids (bank account number: ES17 2100 3642 1722 0016 2234; subject: “Programa Connecta UB”).
