This second international meeting means the continuity of the first AECHE meeting, which took place last year at the University of Barcelona and gathered 175 representatives of Arab and European universities.

The main objective of AECHE —organised by the University of Barcelona, AARU and EUA— is to create a joint framework of dialogue, mutual understanding, knowledge exchange and increased cooperation among higher education Arab and European institutions. The 2nd edition of EACHE is focused on developing a programme to foster student and researcher mobility. Moreover, AECHE has a series of projects, led by the University of Barcelona, centred on specific aspects of university cooperation like quality assurance, internationalization and research.

As it was established on the 1st AECHE, the University of Barcelona hosts the Secretariat of AECHE, which is affiliated with the Rector's Offices of the University.

Rector Dídac Ramírez' stay in Jordania includes a visit to the University of Jordan and the Hashemite University, as well as to the headquarters of the Cervantes Institute.
