The rector of the UB, Joan Elias, urges the Minister of Territory and Sustainability, Damià Calvet, in a letter, to “re-promote the urban planning” corresponding to the Master Plan of Granvia in Hospitalet de Llobregat, “a strategical project with marked public interest that goes beyond local or metropolitan planning, and which responds to the public health and economic interests of the country”.

Two sentences by the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) from last November suspended the Granvia urban master plan in lʼHospitalet. “I was shocked to read that the Court did not find the supramunicipal or sectoral interest to be justified for this transformation”, notes the rector, who believes this view to be “wrong and far from the needs and strategies we need to work on”. “It is clear that the development of a scientific and technologic park near the Catalan Institute of Oncology, the University Hospital of Bellvitge and the University of Barcelona, which gather research and innovation activities through the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is an essential milestone in the future”, he adds.

The rector of the UB notes that this project means “the consolidation of an attraction pole for talent and economy which will be the engine of the metropolitan area and the country as well”. “At the social moment we are living in now, these initiatives are more than necessary, since they create employment and improve the citizensʼ life condition”, highlights Joan Elias.
